P1W1MAX In Sarawak, Sabah Early 2010

P1 recently announced that it plans to roll out its P1 W1MAX service in Sarawak and Sabah by the 1st Qtr, 2010. It has received the necessary approvals to deploy its WiMAX broadband, seen as crucial in achieving the national household broadband penetration of 50% by next year. P1 said that cities and towns such as Kuching, Miri, Bintulu, Kota Kinabalu, Sandakan and Tawau would be able to enjoy its broadband service as early as in the second quarter of next year.

P1 previously received license to deploy in peninsular Malaysia only, and only REDtone can run it's WiMAX in Sabah / Sarawak.

Note that the household broadband penetration rates in Sarawak is only 13.6% and 9.5% in Sabah at the end of 2008 were still very low compared to the national average (24.8% in 2Q2009).
