TM spent RM1.3b HSBB so far
Telekom Malaysia Bhd (TM) has so far spent RM1.3bil of the RM11.3bil allocated for the high-speed broadband (HSBB) project it hopes to launch by next March, reported in theStar. Most of it was spent to develop the core network and to secure international capacity to prepare for HSBB. The next stage will be rolling out fibre optics for the last mile at targeted geographical locations, which are high density areas within the Federal Territory and Selangor. While Huawei Technologies and ZTE Corp, have been chosen as technology partners in the HSBB roll-out, with Alcatel playing a smaller role.
Though work is still in progress, its group CEO Datuk Zam Isa said that by the end of 2012, about 1.3mil premises will have access to HSBB services.
I hope they will adhere with their plan. If not, it'll be a let down since government has also spent so much on this. Government = tax income = our money!!

3 WiMAX licensees FINED
3 WiMAX operators have been hit with fines relating to failures in rolling out their networks on time, the Star Online reports. According to reports, the country’s telecoms watchdog, the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), advised REDtone, Asiaspace and Y-Max Networks that they had failed to reach the 25% population coverage stipulated by their concessions by March 2009. The three operators all face differing levels of financial penalty, with Y-Max looking at a RM1.9 million (USD559,000) penalty, while Asiaspace and REDtone will be required to pay RM1.7 million and RM200,000 respectively.
All 3 operators have, however, said that they will appeal against the ruling, with Tan Sri Francis Yeoh, head of the YTL Group, which owns Y-Max, saying: ‘We believe in having an extensive network up and running as we don’t see the point in having incremental coverage. We take this business seriously. We will have 60% coverage (more than the needed 40%) by the next deadline.’ Additionally, unnamed sources at one of the operators claimed that the delays in achieving the coverage target stemmed from a number of issues including long waits for approval to install the base stations. REDtone meanwhile blamed technical issues with its spectrum allocation for its delays.

Who will win EPL... Astro? TM?
StarBiz reported that Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM) and Astro All Asia Networks plc may be getting into a bidding war to secure the rights for broadcasting the English Premier League (EPL) for the next 3 season. Price wise.. likely more than RM500mil!
We know that Astro is holding the rights of EPL through ESPN now, and since the contract is ending soon, now TM, which soon be launching its IPTV via HSBB, is more than interested in having the rights too! and since EPL has its huge follower, having this right and content could be a key success factor for the launch of IPTV or any other TV offerings.
Though StarBiz said that TM has denied the bid at this moment and Astro declined to comment, I am still looking forward to this battle, and their strategies in maintaining or winning the Paid TV market share.
oh yes, SingTel, who also has its own IPTV called mioTV, has recently secured EPL rights for 3 years too, outbidding incumbent cable TV StarHub, for the price of S$400mil! wow!
